Bye for now
Oct. 28th, 2005 09:52 amMy parents set off for Germany again this morning. We've had a nice week and got quite a few things done around house and garden.
I am now behind with almost everything else, including lj reading.
But hey, instead of catching up, the Marquis and I are going to visit Third and Chairman tonight, to go to the Re-enactors' Fair tomorrow.
Work on Sunday.

Sep. 23rd, 2004 06:54 pmOxonmoot ~ The Report (Second attempt)
I have been very busy with my portfolio of which more at another point and so haven’t got round to doing the report thing until now. But since I want a break from learning and teaching and not being able to find the references that I want to find, here’s my Oxonmoot report instead.

Sep. 22nd, 2004 11:04 amHappy Birthday,
pellegrina.
Happy Birthday,
emperor.
May you both have good days and some nice surprises!
Finally made it back from Oxonmoot at about 20.45 last night, instead of 19.45 as originally hoped.
Weekend was enjoyable despite the fact that I seem to have spent most of it in accident-prone land.
'twas nice to see the Usual Suspects:
pellegrina,
foradan,
emperor, and various Taruithornians (including
dreiviertel, and CTS people, and SocT people. Also met
megamole and
atreic who I'd only known via lj up to that point.
After Enyalie we also caught up with
alitophilus,
jane_somebody,
skordh, and
parrot_knight.
Before I get carried away and write a longer report, however, I am going to do some work on my portfolio...

Boxes and Kinder Country
Sep. 8th, 2004 10:41 amTuemi and friend made a fantastic breakfast for me this morning: boiled eggs, German bread, hazelnut yoghurt, candles (not to eat! ;-)). They also sang Viel Glück und viel Segen for me. :-) Got lots of cards, too, but prezzies I have to wait for until tonight. But I got a bookmark in the form of a sheep from Tuemi and a bracelet from my sister-in-law.
The Marquis called to sing happy birthday to me and then Steele's the removers called to say they were coming past to pick up the boxes from the move (YAY! at last).
When I got into the office, Nix had put up banners with "Happy Birthday" on them and got me flowers and another bracelet (which incidentally matches my turquoise t-shirt). She also found some Kinder Country chocolates and bought them for me, because I mentioned that I really liked them and hadn't seen them in this country yet.
So far this has been one of my most birthdayish birthdays to date! :-D

... here's a very brief hello.
Hello, lj, have been neglecting you, as well as my website (still under construction) and various friends. Been really busy, what with moving house, having my mum and aunt to visit, going to the Fellowship Festival, starting a new job and getting visited by my sister Tuemi and her friend. I was going to update my lj yesterday, but the laundry needed doing and the weather was very nice and I made use of our new garden.
Anyway, I'll fill in the details bit by bit, but for the moment I'd better get on with some work.

What Na'Lon's been up to, Part 1
May. 22nd, 2004 02:38 pmWell, well, well... I think I'd better get something down about what I have been doing and thinking before it all disappears. So following
pellegrina's example, I thought that I might as well make a start now rather than putting if off even more. Unlike my esteemed friend, however, I'll not be so organised as to actually talk about things in a chronological order.

A warrior named Fred
May. 9th, 2004 10:46 pmWhile I monopolise the internet connection and phoneline in our house, the Marquis often plays a computer game called Diablo, which is a sort of 'Buffy goes to the Hellmouth to give the demons some trouble'+ D&D type of game. He's been playing this rogue character called Xenatu for the last several weeks, but today decided to start a new character. A warrior in fact. I suggested he call him Fred, and the Marquis called him Fred. And I am absurdly pleased again, which is -- as Polly remarked -- something one should be more often.

Saturday mostly gone
May. 8th, 2004 11:32 pmSo I didn't get much at all of what I had intended done today, but the Marquis and I went foodshopping and spent lots of money at the second-hand bookshop which is MUCH bigger than I'd realised. It has catacombs full of sheet music amongst other things.
Did lots of emithering with Pellegrina -- we are sort of nearing an end of 'Midnight snack', where 'sort of' is the operative word. But hey, we're having fun.
There was also summat else un-related to Pellegrina's and my writing that I had to write and send off today to meet a deadline. I managed to cobble something okay together, but it's not one of my most sparkley offerings.
Oh yes, and Pellegrina and I did our weekly stint on the phone to each other. It's so nice to talk about such varied topics and ideas. I almost always feel invigorated by our chats, except when we're both of us mopey, when it just feels nice to know that someone else cares, too.
The Marquis and I had the last bottle of the Norman cidre we bought at the food fair at Easter tonight. It was very nice and very bubbly -- nearly uncorked itself. Pity we will miss the next food fair, as we'll have moved to Wolves by then...

Weekend so far
May. 2nd, 2004 11:12 pmNot that much of it is left.
I have spent far too much time on the phone this weekend, while the Marquis was away on TS business. I spoke to Viala, Malaheed, Pellegrina (2x) and to Alitophilus (2x but one time was short). Most of it was game and writing talk but some it was also good ol' fashioned gossip. :-)
Apart from that I did so much laundry I have almost managed to catch up with my backlog. Except now I have to wait for some of it to dry.
I also added tat, chi, tsu, te, to, na, ni, nu, ne, and no to my collection of Hirigana. I can therefore now write Tsusuki (Tatsumi will have to wait) in Hiragana, and Osaka, and Kana. But I am also helplessly confused now. I can usually write them all if I keep them in the correct order, but the moment I try to adlib, about half of them disappear from my brain. But hey, perseverance....
I have earlier edited Chapter 2 of my and Pellegrina's WiP -- it still needs input from Pellegrina, but we are getting closer to the completion of the chapter, despite being at opposite ends of the country. We've also started a new emither ("Midnight Snack"). I have the first bit in my inbox (not read yet at time of writing this) -- really looking forward to this one, but I think it is going to be a toughy...
Dinner was one of the two frozen meals that Parrot Knight gave us as a gift last time he was here visiting. It was very yummy. Thank you, Sir Knight.
Time to post this and read my emither...

Time for an update
Apr. 16th, 2004 08:35 pmToday I returned from a fantabulous day at
pellegrina. Even the 95-minute delay on the train home hasn't managed to dent my feeling of satisfaction...
So what did we actually do?

Clever reptiles
Apr. 7th, 2004 09:15 pmIt turns out you can train Cuban crocodiles much in the same way you can train a dog. The dragon in me is pleased with this discovery. But crocs are probably a bit more dangerous than dogs nevertheless.

Two of our friends have a cuddly wombat they bought in Australia. His name is Werriby.
The other day the Marquis and I were coming home from somewhere and somehow, I can't remember how, the conversation turned to Werriby.
The Marquis says: "You mean the wombie?"
?!? A wombie? Is that an undead wombat?

The last couple of weeks have been very strange and instead of getting my various thoughts and contemplations transferred onto lj, I have been frantically scribbling (or rather tapping) away at a couple of ‘drafts’(for want of a better word) on
pellegrina and my ambitious current writing project.
