Lala has gone totally meeting mad. There was one this morning about Accred. Bollox, scheduled from 9 to 10, which yours truly tried valiantly to keep moving along through all the items that needed covering. At 10 we were nowhere near finished and I left the others to get on without me (which they did until about 11), while I went and got the last few bits together for the teaching I do Tuesdays. I also checked my email to find a reference top another meeting this pm from 4 to 5 which I heard vaguely referred to be Tech and Ceejay, but for which there was no official communique other than an email stating which room it was going to be in. Despite the fact that I'd not intended to go to this meeting, I relented as I didn't want to abandon Ceejay to having to face Lala tout seul. But Tech and I were the only ones that turned up at the room that had been referred to in the email. After waiting for about fifteen minutes, Tech and I went to hunt for Lala and Ceejay, and after a further fifteen minutes Tech gave up. I decided to check one last place and managed to find Ceejay and Lala at long last. They'd spent ages talking about noticeboard -- a safe topic! Tomorrow, we have another two meetings coming up. AAAAAARGH!

After work the Marquis and I went to a fund-raising quiz together with Ceejay and her husband. We came third out of five team, and generally had a good time. The quiz was really good fun with music round, and picture round, general knowledge, obscure and less obscure, and some matching historical events to decades and specific years. Our team got 79 out of 100 points.

Oh and the new series of CSI has started tonight and if there wasn't a powercut again tonight while we were out, I should be able to watch it tomorrow. Yay!

I didn't go in to work today, until I had finished the job application I was working on. Originally I'd wanted to go past the hairdresser's to make an appointment to have my hair cut, but by the time I was ready to head off I didn't have the time to do that. I went straight to the osteopath in the lovel local drizzle, appreciative of the existence of my recently acquired Drizabone -- apart from my face, I did stay almost as dry as a bone, too.

The osteopath made a not quite catty comment about the fact that I should be able to get my back to start improving rather than just keeping going at the same level of disfunction, but what with all the stress at work and so on, not much is changing. I really need to get back into the habit of going to the gym regularly -- it make a huge difference to my wellbeing.

Work after the treatment wasn't exactly conducive towards inproving the situation with my back.

The current tale of work woe )

I left work slightly early to post the application, then wandered past the hairdresser's and my usual girl had an appointment for tomorrow at 15.15. Now I need to decide what I want her to do.

hair dithering )

Hm... I am sure there were a lot more things that I was going to ramble on about when I sat down at the computer, but somehow I can't recall... Oh well... another time.

Today was my first day teaching in Lancaster after the break. It was actually surprisingly nice, despite the digustingly early start.

The weather today was just horrifible, with much wind and rain and inside out brollies and splashed up mucky water from the dual carriage way along which I have to walk on the way to work. But eventually I managed to get to work and sat down to sort out a few things before the first of two meetings of the day...

But today wasn't just about meetings. I also made some further notes for things to go on my CV, and I read my evil twin's DiR fic ([livejournal.com profile] jane_somebody), which I liked and which has made me want to reread the DiR books.

Was a low-key day yesterday without getting much done in the way of useful stuff, because I felt kind of grim after the meeting with the boss. It could have been much worse, but it could have been much better.

Today was much better! Got my first paper sent off for publication -- I hope they accept it, even if they want me to do some corrections etc. This was a good thing, because it meant I could send an email to Rol my supervisor from PhD days, who'd agreed yesterday to act as a referee for me in job hunt, but pointedly commented that a few papers would really help me in making more of my career.

After I'd posted the paper -- wibble! -- I treated myself to some more JavaScript... Read more... )

After the programming and hunting around the web for potentially useful sources, I wrote the first part of the assignment that I have to hand in on the 15th. When I mentioned it to Ceejay, she remembered that she had a whole lot of journals about the teaching of psychology that I could borrow. As it happened, the first of these that I picked up had two articles by people from my old university: Rol, Ruby and a couple of other colleague! I also found two potentially very useful papers for my assignment.

Anyway, spent the evening editing some of one of my big stories, so that I can get it into a place from where I can continue writing it. This is one that I have mentioned to Polly before -- hopefully, I'll be able to send you some of it soon for some comment, my dear evil twin...

Time for bed now, another meeting with boss tomorrow.

Anti-climax

Back to work today -- wasn't as bad as I feared, despite the fact that I had that dreadful 'I don't want to got back to school'-feeling that I haven't had since I was at school.

At least, I got some planning done on the assignment that I need to hand in by the 15th of January. Also started to learn some JavaScript, which is quite good fun, although, so far I can't do anything useful.

Tomorrow is the day of the first difficult meeting with my boss in the wake of last semester's hellishness. I am not looking forward to it.

Also, something I have been waiting for for quite a while sort of came to pass, except it was a real anti-climax. I guess, if you look forward to something too much, you set yourself up for disappointment. If you don't hope and anticipate, then maybe there's no disappointment. But how can you stop yourself from looking forward to something? Meditation, maybe? Got to get back to doing Yoga regularly.
